What is Systemic Family Therapy?
Systemic Psychotherapy is a branch of talking therapy, which research indicates is effective in a wide range of areas. It is particularly helpful in supporting individuals and families going through significant life changes, as well as treating specific problems such as relationship difficulties, divorce and separation, psycho-sexual problems, domestic violence, mood disorders: anxiety and depression, alcohol or drug abuse, schizophrenia, adjustment to chronic physical illness and adult mental health difficulties.
What is the benefit of Systemic Family Therapy?
Family therapy views individuals within the context of their family systems and emphasizes the interconnectedness of family members and the impact of family relationships on individual functioning.
Moreover, it is culturally sensitive and recognises the diversity of family structures, values, and beliefs across different cultures and backgrounds. Therapists respect and incorporate clients’ cultural perspectives and practices into the therapeutic process, ensuring that interventions are relevant and respectful of clients’ cultural identities.

Female Genital Mutilation Support and Training

Child Sexual Abuse
Victim-survivors of child sexual abuse can be affected in a wide range of ways, but the nature and extent of the impacts experienced vary: no two people are affected in exactly the same way. This means that victim-survivors themselves are the best experts on how they have been and are being affected, and any attempt to understand the impact on an individual should begin with them.
Individuals may feel the impacts of child sexual abuse at different points over the course of their lifetime, and the ways they are impacted can change from childhood to adulthood; furthermore, other forms of victimisation as a child and/or an adult can compound the impacts of sexual abuse. Conversely, some adults who were sexually abused as children do not report significant adverse consequences in adulthood, although the evidence on long-term impact is still building. All of this means that victim-survivors themselves are the best experts on how they have been and are being affected, and any attempt to understand how an individual is impacted should begin with them.
